In an effort to bridge the digital divide and empower underserved communities, Pangilinan-led Smart Communications, Inc. has teamed up with global fintech company PayJoy to offer smartphone financing solutions to Filipinos who typically lack access to traditional credit.
The collaboration aims to provide mid to high-end smartphones through flexible financing options, enabling more users to upgrade their devices and access digital services on Smart’s 4G/LTE and 5G networks.
“This collaboration is about empowering Filipinos—especially those previously excluded from formal credit systems—with the opportunity to upgrade their means of communication and access to information,” said Jac Bocalan, department head and vice president at Smart.
Christian So, officer-in-charge and assistant vice president for sales at Smart, said the initiative is in line with the telco’s commitment to extend digital access through innovative and inclusive solutions.
“We’re encouraging more customers to shift from 3G to LTE or 5G to experience better connectivity, whether it’s for productivity, entertainment, gaming, or staying in touch,” he said.
PayJoy, which currently serves 66 million low-income consumers in the Philippines and other emerging markets, specializes in providing responsible financing solutions through its AI-powered underwriting and proprietary phone-locking technology.
