SPEEd, an organization composed of current and former entertainment editors from the country’s leading broadsheets, top tabloids, and online portals, visited Saint John the Baptist Parish Church, more commonly known as Longos Church. The centuries-old Catholic church holds the distinction of being the oldest in the town of Kalayaan, Laguna. Now 355 years old, the church is undergoing continuous restoration and beautification efforts.
Among the church’s unique features is the Botafumeiro, a large swinging thurible suspended from grand metal arches inscribed with verses from the Song of Zechariah.

The children’s wide smiles and heartfelt gratitude shine through as they eagerly received clothes, toys, biscuits, and fruits.

SPEEd was warmly welcomed by Rev. Fr. Christian Abao, parish priest of St. John the Baptist, along with members of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL).
These simple gifts may seem modest to some, but to the children and their parents who patiently lined up to receive SPEEd’s thoughtful tokens, the gesture brought immense happiness. It also left a lasting reminder of the value of sharing blessings and fostering kindness within the community.
SPEEd likewise made a cash donation to the church, which will help support its continuing restoration and strengthen its foundation for generations to come.
The outreach was made possible with the help and support of several groups and individuals, including Biñan, Laguna Representative Len Alonte, Bebot Santos of Colorete Clothing, Moises Fernandez and Friends, singer Geraldine Jennings, LVD Management, Inc., and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII).
SPEEd is currently led by Salve Asis as president and is now in its 10th year. The group is also behind the Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards, or The EDDYS, which will be held this year on July 20 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Newport World Resorts. The event will have a delayed telecast simultaneously on the Kapamilya Channel, Jeepney TV, and iWantTFC.
