THE Philippines showcased the country’s animation capabilities at the Annecy International Animation Film Market (MIFA) 2025, held on June 10 to 13 in Annecy, France.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in a statement on Tuesday said the Philippines’ participation was bolstered by the Philippines–France Cinematographic Co-Production Agreement signed in May 2025, under which Filipino and French producers can jointly create film, television, and animation projects that will be recognized as national productions in both countries.

Held alongside the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, MIFA convenes services providers, original content creators, studios, and industry professionals from around the world.

“Our robust presence at MIFA 2025—bolstered by the new co-production agreement with France—underscores our unwavering commitment to expanding international partnerships, opening new markets, and driving sustained growth for Filipino creative talent,” DTI Secretary Cristina Roque said.

The  Film Development Council of the Philippines, which led the national delegation, curated a roster of Filipino studios and creators to showcase the country’s animation capabilities.

The DTI said the delegation demonstrated the nation’s strengths in animation services and original content and featured leading studios, including Animation Vertigo, Leveret Group, Mothership Recording Studios, Neun Farben Corporation, PlayLab Animation Studio, Puppeteer Studios, Rocketsheep Studios, Toon City (Morph Animation, Inc.), Toon City Academy, and Top Draw Animation.

The delegation also hosted the Philippine Reception and Phili-Pitch event at the Pavilion to introduce international stakeholders to a new wave of Filipino animation projects, the DTI added.

The DTI  facilitated business matching, market scoping, and strategic meetings with potential international partners.

Featured highlights included the Work-in-Progress Feature Film screening of Zsazsa Zaturnnah by Rocketsheep Studios, a special presentation under the MIFA Pitches–TV Series and Specials for Sun Chaser by Toon City (Morph Animation Inc.), and the Southeast Asia Pitch of Anito by Puppeteer Studios.

The DTI said the Philippine animation industry has evolved from an outsourcing hub into a competitive player in the global creative economy.  It now offers a full range of services — from 2D and 3D animation to visual effects and game art. Local studios are increasingly producing original content that reflects Filipino culture and creativity.

The DTI added that Filipino studios cater to a broad range of markets, including media, gaming, advertising, and education.

The Philippines–France Cinematographic Co-Production Agreement signed on May 14, 2025  is considered a milestone for Philippine–French cultural diplomacy, said a statement of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on May 20, 2025.

The agreement, it added, enables collaborative productions in film, television, and media between Filipino and French creatives.

The co-production accord is set to launch concrete initiatives and programs, aligning with the Philippine government’s broader goals of advancing the creative industries through cultural and economic diplomacy, the DFA said.
