Two Chinese researchers will remain in jail after being arrested in separate incidents for allegedly smuggling biological materials.
According to Click on Detroit, Chengxuan Han was arrested at the Detroit Airport. She is accused of making false statements about packages sent to staff members at the University of Michigan lab and allegedly smuggling biological materials.
Yunqing Jian was arrested for allegedly smuggling a fungal pathogen through an airport last summer.
Han, according to WXYZ, says she was transporting biological material for research purposes.
The University of Michigan said in a statement that it is cooperating with the investigations.
