NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A rally to end Filipino deportations in Norfolk was held at Town Point Park Sunday morning.
Organized by the Hampton Roads Coalition for Filipino Seafarers, the rally began at 10:30 a.m., protesting the detainment and deportation of over 33 Filipino cruise ship employees by U.S Customs and Border Protection in the city. These deportations have led to the revoking of work visas, which prevents workers from providing for their families back in the Philippines. Carnival Cruise Line, whose ships like the Carnival Sunshine have docked in the city, has apparently not shown support to its workers.
