Making “herstory” in the long-running reality show.
On Friday, September 26 (Manila time), the American fashion design TV competition ‘Project Runway’ aired the final episode of its 21st season.
The Philippines was represented in the finale of the popular show as Filipino designer Veejay Floresca showcased her winning collection called “A Beautiful Moment.”
She narrated that the name was chosen as she chose to honor her father’s memory, given that it was inspired by the title of the movie they used to watch together.
“My collection represents me as a designer because it’s very innovative, it’s modern. I think it’s the right balance of concept and wearability,” she described her pieces.
In the finale, the contest was down to Floresca, Jesus Estrada, and Ethan Mundt. Ultimately, host and judge Heidi Klum announced that Veejay was the winner of the show’s 21st season.
In tears, the first Filipino and transwoman to win the long-running program noted that she had long been a fan of the program, which dates back to 2004.
“I’ve seen you, Heidi, since season 1. I was just a little gay boy in the Philippines watching the show, and I’ve always been wanting to do this,” said Floresca.
The designer is no stranger to the franchise, as in 2008, she joined the first season of ‘Project Runway Philippines’ on ETC, where she finished as the first runner-up.
In 2022, she carried the flag when she competed in Miss Trans Star International in Spain, where she placed in the Top 16 of the edition won by Nicaraguan Tiffany Gonzalez.
Aside from Floresca’s win, Filipino-American singer Jessica Sanchez also made a new record as she took home the grand prize in another reality show, ‘America’s Got Talent’ on Thursday, September 25.
