Editorial Department

Content Producer (General News)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Cover and produce breaking and developing news across politics, governance, public safety, business, and national issues.
  • Write clear, accurate quick-turn reports and follow-ups; develop enterprise angles and explainers as stories evolve.
  • Verify information, monitor government releases and press briefings, and maintain source lists.
  • Coordinate with photo/video, social, and editors for strong presentation/reach.
  • Contribute to live updates, alerts, and homepage curation during assigned shifts (including some nights/weekends/holidays).

Qualifications:

  • At least 1–2 years of newsroom reporting or digital news production experience, but strong campus press or internship experience may be considered.
  • Excellent news judgment; speed with accuracy; familiarity with AP style and Philippine media law basics.
  • Proficiency with CMS, headline writing, and social distribution.
  • Strong writing, fact-checking, and sourcing discipline.
  • Multimedia, video production or prompt engineering know-how a strong plus.

Desk Editor

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Line edit and fact-check copy for clarity, fairness, accuracy, and house style; write and optimize headlines, summaries, and teases.
  • Oversee daily story flow, assign and track pieces, and coordinate with reporters, producers, visuals, and social.
  • Curate the homepage/app, program push alerts, and manage live coverage during breaking news.
  • Multimedia, video production or prompt engineering know-how a strong plus.
  • Coach junior staff on reporting, structure, and standards; uphold legal/ethical guidelines on attribution, corrections, and sourcing.
  • Work assigned shifts, including some nights/weekends/holidays, as news cycle and content strategy demand.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years editing or advanced reporting experience in a digital newsroom.
  • Sharp copy-editing skills; strong grasp of AP style, libel/sourcing basics, and Philippine public affairs.
  • Proven headline writing and audience/SEO awareness; fluency with CMS workflows and analytics.
  • Calm under deadline with strong coordination and decision-making.
  • Degree in journalism/communications or related discipline preferred.

Content Producer (Lifestyle and Entertainment)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Pitch and produce lifestyle and entertainment content aligned with editorial standards for Philstar.com.
  • Monitor pop culture trends, celebrity news, events, and lifestyle stories relevant to Filipino readers.
  • Develop original features, interviews, and multimedia content with strong audience appeal.
  • Work with other editorial units to ensure quality and relevance of published materials.

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in lifestyle or entertainment journalism, content production, or related fields.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with a flair for digital content.
  • Knowledge of trends in pop culture, entertainment, fashion, food, and Filipino lifestyle.
  • Ability to generate creative ideas under deadlines.
  • Graduate of communications, journalism, or any humanities/social sciences course.

Contributors, Part-time

We are looking for contributors with fresh perspectives and sharp angles on:

  • Emerging social media trends, topics and digital behavior
  • Local business personalities, practices and startup stories
  • Urban development, city life and hyperlocal initiatives in Philippine cities

Who we’re looking for:

  • Writers, researchers, or journalists—established or emerging—with relevant experience or subject matter familiarity
  • Strong writing and reporting skills with an eye for what’s new and relevant
  • Ability to pitch compelling story ideas backed by insight and context

Note: This is a per-piece, contributor-based arrangement. Regular contributors may be invited to write more frequently or collaborate on editorial projects.

Other departments

Events Specialist

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and execute a diverse range of events (on-ground and virtual) aligned with editorial, sales, and client objectives.
  • Liaise with sponsors, partners, vendors, speakers, and internal teams to ensure seamless execution.
  • Develop event concepts, timelines, production schedules, and budgets.
  • Coordinate with content, digital, and sales teams to amplify event promotion and post-event engagement.
  • Manage event logistics: venue, permits, production, registration, staffing, etc.
  • Analyze event performance, prepare reports, and recommend areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, PR, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in event planning, production, or media-related activations.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Creative thinker with a sharp eye for detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience with virtual platforms (Zoom Webinar, Facebook Live, TikTok) and CRM/event tools.
